About the Program
This is a 2-week Nursing Assistant course. Hours are from 7:30am-4:30pm Monday thru Friday. It follows the state required guidelines for 102 hours of instruction. Instruction is with a qualified Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN). The first week consists of classroom instruction, where students will learn theory and practice hands on skills on a manikin (location is Tolland, CT). The second week the students will enter a participating nursing or rehabilitation facility for the clinical aspect (hands on) of the program (Location is Mansfield, Stafford Springs, or Enfield). This is where the students will learn to work and communicate with residents in a healthcare setting. The clinical site will provide an environment necessary to give the students the true feeling and importance of the role of a Nursing Assistant. While participating at the clinical site with their instructor the students observe and perform the duties of a nursing assistant; Bathing, dressing, feeding, ambulating, and transferring are some of the examples. In all, with the ever-growing demand and need for services and care, in our nation, it is the primary objective of this school to prepare these students which ultimately enables them to enter the healthcare field. The tuition cost for the program is $1075. We do require a $300.00 deposit at the time of registration, the $300 will be counted towards the total tuition. The students will also be responsible for purchasing our books, uniform and BLS CPR class. As a Healthcare worker, students will need to be BLS Certified in order to do clinicals. This is offered to them for a separate cost. The certification is good for 2 years and is offered through the American Heart and Lung Association. The cost of uniform, CPR, and books is $350.00, CASH ONLY, we use different vendors for these services.
Our Story
The Owner/Founder of the School
James Deskin (Jim)
Before opening the school, Jim's mom had become sick needing 24-hour care. Jim decided to take a nursing assistant course to learn a few things about taking care of a loved one at home. He quickly realized that this wasn't an easy task to do, help was called in from different agencies, however he had noticed care just wasn't the best at times and decided to step in and care for his mom 24/7. After his mom had passed, he decided something had to be done to have better educated Healthcare givers in the field This is when The CNA Preparatory School was established in 2011. Making it our goal to put the best caring and compassionate CNAs into the field.

The Director
Judith Knoob (Judy)
Judy helped get our school up and running and has been with the CNA Preparatory School since 2011, she has been in the Healthcare field for over 20 years. Judy stated that during her career as a nurse she had worked with some healthcare workers who had poor work ethics and had no care or compassion for their patients. This is what motivated Judy to become an instructor. Judy wanted to help put Caring and compassionate healthcare workers into the field. Her favorite quote is "Live by the Golden Rule."
